South Padre Island Convention & Visitors Bureau Mission The mission of the South Padre Island Convention & Visitors Bureau is to build and maintain awareness of South Padre Island as a premier, year-round leisure and convention/meetings destination to targeted audiences with an end result of positively promoting tourism, the convention and lodging industry and enhancing the quality of life on South Padre Island. Position Purpose Under the supervision of the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager in the Marketing Division at the South Padre Island CVB, the Marketing/Communications Specialist will play a key role in promoting South Padre Island by developing content to be disseminated via newsletters, press releases, social media, website (including blogs), as well as other distribution channels. They will also assist the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager in the planning and implementation of all marketing and PR initiatives. This position will also perform other activities as directed and will work collaboratively with staff from across the organization to promote department goals and messages while maintaining the City of South Padre Island's message and image. The ideal candidate will be a confident collaborator who won't hesitate to jump in and work alongside team members on projects and tasks of all levels. They will be competent and driven, adept at decision-making and problem solving, and will have a positive attitude. They will possess initiative and good judgment and will be conscientious and trustworthy. A passion for destination marketing is a must. Essential Functions Marketing/Communications Create and maintain content calendars for various communications platforms. Create authentic, high quality content or website (including blog topics), promotional materials, advertising, and e-communications to various audiences. Graphic design for marketing/promotional materials and other various projects for City and CVB departments. Assist with media tours, including creating itineraries, working with tourism partners to coordinate activities, and serving as an ambassador for South Padre Island throughout the tour. Responsible for producing e-blast communications and promotions. Copywriting Work with the Senior Marketing & Communications Manager to create authentic, high quality content and assist in creating shareable content appropriate for various platforms. Manage and contribute to the SPI CVB blog on various subject matters regarding tourism. Social Media Manage and grow brand presence and engagement for South Padre Island through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other strategically relevant online platforms. Day-to-day publishing/scheduling and management of social media platforms. Planning and implementation of internal campaigns and social media boosts. Responsible for coordinating with supervisor and agency of record to develop social media content, strategy, and community engagement. Monitor online conversations and engage with various audiences to support destination branding and increased visitation. Monitor social media groups, trends, tools, and applications and recommend actions/next steps as needed. Website Write clear and persuasive copy for websites. Perform and apply search engine optimization techniques. Audit, troubleshoot and perform daily quality assurance tests of websites and digital marketing initiatives. Manage event submissions and business listings. Administrative Functions Assist with management of digital asset library. Digital Media Operations responsibilities include ad creative collection and interfacing with various departments. Accounting responsibilities will include the generating of internal accounting reports using our internal systems. Generate social media reports to present to internal and external stakeholders. Assist with management of leads and e-communications databases. Secondary Functions Photography as needed if a professional is not available and providing the event or project does not interfere with any primary functions. Performs all other duties as assigned. Capital and/or Fiscal Responsibility Responsible for adhering to all City of South Padre Island Purchasing Policies while performing purchasing tasks. It is by no means complete or exhaustive in its scope.Qualifications Proficiency, knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite. Strong communication skills, both oral and written are required. Maintain a well-informed working knowledge of attractions and tourism partners and services in the area. Excellent copywriting and editing skills with knowledge and experience in AP format. Ability to use modern tools to research and compile information quickly. Desired: Knowledge and experience of proper use of digital cameras and video cameras and related equipment. Desired: Knowledge and experience in video creation and editing software. Skills & Abilities Must be self-starter showing initiative and be proactive in performing all associated duties. Must be highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Technical knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, metrics and tracking. Have a keen eye for design and be a creative and forward-thinking individual. Ability to create content copy with accurate format, grammar, completeness and clarity. Ability to plan, organize, implement and effectively present ideas and concepts to city staff, committees and the general public. Ability to learn quickly and able to change and remain flexible in a fast paced environment. Ability to work under pressure, in crowded conditions, and/or with frequent interruptions and handle the pressure of meeting strict deadlines. Ability to explain complex concepts and procedures in simple to understand terms. Ability to complete complex tasks thoroughly and professionally with and without direct supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with staff and outside end-users. Strong ability in troubleshooting to determine the source of technical problems. A positive, friendly and team player attitude is desired. Should be willing to learn new concepts and share ideas. Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours. Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related field required. Two (2) years' experience in marketing/communications, with significant copywriting and interactive social media experience, or any combination of experience and education, equivalency to be determined by employer. Demonstrated experience managing communications through CRM platforms, or social media management platforms including, but not limited to Sprout Social, Loomly, HootSuite, etc. Valid Texas driver's license with driving record that meets City guidelines. Travel Travel and attendances at industry functions and events may be necessary on weekends and evenings. Due to the nature of the business, every position at the SPI CVB requires flexibility and, at times, assistance that supersedes the job description.
