Career Support Specialist - SEAL

Job Description:

The Career Support Specialist provides participant support and conducts oversight and monitoring of the Summer Earn & Learn (SEAL) program, a subsidized work experience program for youth with disabilities. The Specialist will work up to 30 hours per week providing support to SEAL participants, monitoring participant and worksite activities, and identifying and resolving issues per SEAL standards and policies. This is temporary assignment lasting 8-12 weeks.

  • Collect and review payroll records for accuracy and ensure records are relayed timely for payroll processing.
  • Perform monitoring reviews of SEAL participants and worksites/supervisors to verify conformance with SEAL standards/policies. Notify supervisor of quality/compliance issues.
  • Document monitoring outcomes for designated stakeholders.
  • Identify and report participant/worksite/supervisor issues and coordinate proper resolution with Regional Director, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) staff, BSU and other stakeholders.
  • Participates in job readiness and payroll workshops.
  • Provides support and guidance to SEAL participants, as needed.
  • Maintain system accountability for meeting standards established by Southwest Key Workforce, Board and other applicable agencies.

  • Able to work from remote locations.
  • Travel to attend meetings, training and other activities.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

  • Associate degree or 60 college credit hours with 1 year previous work experience (Vocational Rehabilitation majors and/or work experience preferred).
  • Job requires 50-75% travel throughout Cameron County.
  • Must have valid drivers license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, etc.)
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with the communities being served.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local needs and resources.


Bilingual (English/Spanish).

  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas.
  • While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment.
  • Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

Includes both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and local travel, including exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather conditions, and occasional environmental hazards.
