SPI Wellness Coordinator

Job Description:

Summary/Objective:

The primary role of the Wellness Coordinator is to educate clients on a variety of wellness and fitness
activities that will benefit the clients physical and emotional health, as well as enhancing their sober
lifestyle.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual support or counseling in general wellness or nutrition.
    Track attendance, participation, or performance data related to wellness events.
    Prepare or implement budgets and strategic, operational, purchasing, or maintenance plans.
    Maintain or arrange for maintenance of fitness equipment or facilities.
    Teach fitness classes to improve strength, flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, or general
    fitness of participants.
    Recommend or approve new program or service offerings to promote wellness and fitness,
    produce revenues, or minimize costs.
    Operate, and instruct others in, proper operation of fitness equipment, such as weight
    machines, exercise bicycles, benches, hand weights, and fitness assessment devices.
    Manage or oversee fitness or recreation facilities, ensuring safe and clean facilities and
    equipment.
    Develop individual and group exercises to address our clients general physical fitness needs.
    Integrate 12-Step language within the realm of individual and group fitness planning and
    activities.
    Implement interventions place on the client treatment plan.
    Document individual progress notes and wellness goal reviews.
    Attend and participate in weekly multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings.
    Teach and advise co-workers on appropriate fitness interventions for individual and group
    programming.
    Knowledge of the organizations customer base, industry trends, and current best practices.
    Exhibit understanding of proper safety precautions, procedures and use of equipment. Also,
    illustrate the ability to recognize potential safety hazards and implement preventative
    measures.
    Apply skills to emergency situations that could arise in ones work area.
    Uphold all Origins Behavioral HealthCare Policies and Procedures.
    Maintain client/potential client confidentiality in accordance with Origins Policy.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office
equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee
is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and
arms.


The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must
frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.


Education/Experience/Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field.
Minimum one (1) year experience working in treatment setting.
Certified Fitness Trainer preferred.
Nutrition certification preferred.
If in recovery, one (1) year of continuous sobriety preferred.
Must produce and maintain a valid drivers license and pass MVR requirements per policy.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must possess the ability to express ideas clearly in both verbal and written forms.
Knowledge of weight training, yoga, and athletics.
Must be thoroughly familiar and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles and
programs of the various 12-step fellowships.


Competence/Measurements:
Provide services for clients to assess and develop wellness skills - Supervision, Direct
Observations, Chart Reviews.
Develop and facilitate wellness groups, providing education, information, and practice of the
skills in these areas to our clients - Supervision, Direct Observation.
Provide client orientations and supervision in the recreation/fitness areas - Direct Observations.
Perform all job functions in a safe and professional manner to minimize risk of injury to clients,
self, and others - Supervision, Direct Observation.
Compliance with all state standards and accrediting bodies documentation.
